[Ferro-Alloys.com] In the middle of March, silicon metal was still in tight supply on spot market and quotations kept firm in China. According to one producer in Yunnan, there were no inventories to supply and the Si orders had been booked in advance. Recently, due to the tight supply, many consumers began to purchase actively, which drove Si price increasing. As to the downstream demand, Si consumption was not that active. “The trading volume of Si products dropped in large range compared with the same period in last year.” On trader said.
Reportedly, port price of Si553# was RMB12,300-12,500/mt and delivery price of Si441# was RMB13,500-13,700/mt in Kunming, Yunnan province. Although Si price kept firm, it’s hard to purchase on spot market. Due to the low capacity utilization rate in dry season, it’s seems that the shortage of Si products may hard to relieve in a short time.
