[Ferro-Alloys.com]2013 saw an construction upsurge of ferrochrome producing equipment in the world, which would increase the global production volume of ferrochrome in 2014. According to the data, MERAFE, one of South Africa’s largest ferrochrome producers, increased its production volume by 23% in H1 2014 compared to the same period of 2013, up 64% in the production rate; International Ferro Metals Limited (IFM) increased its production volume by 24% in H1 2014 compared to the same period of 2013; and the rest of South Africa’s ferrochrome producers increased their production as well due to the absence of power buy-back program. About 16.6 million tonnes of ferrochrome has been exported to China in Jan-Sept 2014. Oman exported 18.7k tonnes of ferrochrome to China in the first nine months of 2014 after its first ferrochrome plant was put into production in 2013. The new completed plant, with a capacity of 450k tonnes, was put into production on Aug 22, 2014, which would produced 226.5k tonnes of ferrochrome in 2014.

 

China, the greatest ferrochrome producer in the world, increased its output by 22.1% in the first nine months over the same period in 2013. China is increasing its production capacity as the large equipment, ranging from 30,000kVA to 70,000kVA, were put into production successively, especially in Inner Mongolia where most of China’s new equipment was constructed due to its low and constant power prices without the affect of dry season. China would increase its ferrochrome output in 2014, even though more than half of production capacity remained idle in Southern China. China is expected to produce 5 MT ferrochrome in 2014 than that of 4.2 MT in 2013.
