Merafe posts lower earnings, ferro-chrome output

[Ferro-Alloys.com]Merafe’s earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (Ebitda) fell 28% year-on-year in 2011 as ferro-chrome production fell 12%, the company said on Tuesday March 6.

Merafe, which operates the Xstrata-Merafe Chome Venture with Xstrata Alloys, recorded Ebitda of $3.8 million in 2011 compared with $5.3 million in 2010, the company said. Total ferro-chrome production for the year dropped to 263,000 tonnes, which represented around 65% of capacity utilisation, amid lower demand.
