                                            European Union to take action and to vote on steel imports restraint

According to European Union sources, EU countries will converse on the actions suggested to restraint steel imports into the bloc by the European Commission and are likely to vote on this on July 5. Since the US enforced tariffs on steel and aluminum imports and gave no country exemption of these tariffs, the European Commission has offered an amalgamation of a quota and a tariff to avoid a gush of threatened steel imports. EU’s prime exporters of steel includes China, South Korea, India, Ukraine, Russia and Turkey. In late March, the Commission administers the trade policy for the 28- member EU, hurled a study whether the import charges by US warranted action to avert primarily Asian manufacturers drowning Europe with steel. The steel investigation is conditionally set to last nine months and covers 28 steel grades and steel products. At the inauguration of its investigation the Commission noted that the concerned steel products imports escalated from 18.8 million tonnes in 2013 to 30.6 million tonnes in 2017 which is greater than the increase of domestic production. The EU has levied its own charges on 2.8 billion euros which is 3.3 billion USD of US imports which includes motor bikes, bourbon etc. and has issued a legal challenge at the World Trade Organization (WTO).
