[ferro-alloys.com]Royal Nickel Corporation president Mark Selby says the Canadian company is eyeing a listing in Australia after recovering a cache of visually stunning gold specimens from its Beta Hunt mine near Kambalda that have attracted global attention.

Images of the gold-encrusted quartz specimens emerging from the mine last month sent shares in the Toronto-listed company soaring from C9¢ to $C1.15, boosting its market capitalisation well above $C300 million. RNC confirmed yesterday it had recovered 30,000-35,000oz worth of gold in the past month, worth nearly $60 million.

The serendipitous find and subsequent share price reaction has prompted RNC to abandon a proposed sale of the asset and expand exploration activities at Beta Hunt.

“We always thought it had the potential for a big deposit, we just weren’t able to raise the capital to drill it out properly,” Mr Selby said.

Flush with cash from the sale of the gold, Mr Selby said the company would continue drilling with the aim of shoring up a resource that he hoped would sustain the mine for years.

He said the company was excited it had 10km-plus of potential strike length to find more gold at grades of up to a staggering 15,000 grams a tonne.

“They’re not going to be continuous by any stretch of the imagination, but either we got very lucky ... or we will find more of these as we go along,” he said.

Mr Selby said he believed the find had attracted so much interest because it was a brand new discovery (under a nickel mine) and was high grade.

“If these rocks had that same grade but were black and monolithic, there wouldn’t be nearly the excitement,” he said.

“But when you visualise high-grade gold, this is kind of what you expect, so both of those things have helped.”

RNC will take the specimens on a world tour next year before an auction of the rocks.

Mr Selby said the company would decide on an ASX listing in the next month.
