[ferro-alloys.com]Japan will renew anti-dumping duty imposed on Chinese manganese feedstock used for lithium ion batteries, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry said Tuesday.

Chinese electrolytic manganese dioxide, or EMD, used as cathode for lithium ion batteries, currently has anti-dumping duty of 34.3% for products of Guizhou Redstar Developing Dalong Manganese Industry, and 46.5% for those of other Chinese firms in Japan.

The duty has been in place since September 1, 2008, and was to expire on March 4 this year.

The Japanese government, after conducting a research on prices and cost levels last year involving 15 Chinese companies and around 20 Japanese companies, determined that Chinese EMD imports will negatively impact the Japanese EMD manufacturers and will continue to levy the duty from March 1, 2019, for another five years, METI said. Guizhou Redstar responded to the survey.

Spain was levied a 14% anti-dumping duty and South Africa a 14.5% duty for the September 2008-March 2019 period as well.

METI determined that imports from these two countries do not have a negative impact on the Japanese industry and the duty on EMD from these countries will terminate March 4.
