India's largest state-owned iron ore producer, NMDC, plans to open two more new mines in the next three to four years, with a total capacity of about 20 million tons per year. NMDC plans to nearly double its production in fiscal year 2022-2023. Amitava Mukherjee, Finance Director of NMDC, said at the New Exchange Iron Ore Forum that "Our goal is to achieve an annual output of 65 million tons to 67 million tons of iron ore by fiscal year 2022-2023, and we are confident of achieving this goal through the growth of these new mines and existing mines."

The state-owned NDMC company produced 32.38 million tons of iron ore in fiscal year 2018-2019, compared with 35.5 million tons in fiscal year 2017-2018, which was affected by the suspension of the Danimai iron ore mine, which produced 6 million tons annually in southern Kanatak State. Two new mines in NMDC are being developed jointly with the state government of Chhattisgarh in central India. Four deposits and 13 mines in Bailadila area of Chhattisgarh are the core of NMDC iron ore production. The initial target of the mine is to produce 15 million tons per year, which will gradually increase to 20 million tons per year. NMDC is currently applying for the operation of these mines.

The company is also concerned about the export of pellets in the next 1-3 years. NMDC plans to solve related technical problems in the next 6-8 months. The annual production capacity of 1.2 million tons of Nimalai pellet plant in Kanatak State is currently very low. A new pelletizing plant with an annual capacity of 2 million tons is expected to be put into operation in central India within two years. Mukherjee said, "Once we have enough to sell, we will definitely export the pellets."NMDC plans to nearly double its production in fiscal year 2022-2023.
