[Ferro-Alloys.com] In the week ending on December 12, 2020, domestic raw steel production was 1,567,000 net tons while the capability utilization rate was 70.9 percent. Production was 1,815,000 net tons in the week ending December 12, 2019 while the capability utilization then was 78.5 percent. The current week production represents a 13.7 percent decrease from the same period in the previous year. Production for the week ending December 12, 2020 is down 0.8 percent from the previous week ending December 5, 2020 when production was 1,579,000 net tons and the rate of capability utilization was 71.4 percent.

Adjusted year-to-date production through December 12, 2020 was 75,332,000 net tons, at a capability utilization rate of 67.3 percent. That is down 18.2 percent from the 92,079,000 net tons during the same period last year, when the capability utilization rate was 79.8 percent.

Broken down by districts, here’s production for the week ending December 12, 2020 in thousands of net tons: North East: 144; Great Lakes: 558; Midwest: 165; Southern: 628 and Western: 72 for a total of 1567.

The Raw Steel production tonnage provided in this report is estimated. The figures are compiled from weekly production tonnage provided from 50% of the domestic producers combined with monthly production data for the remainder. Therefore, this report should be used primarily to assess production trends.

Note: Capability for the Fourth Quarter 2020 is approximately 29.1 million tons compared to 30.4 million tons for the same period last year and 29.4 million tons for the Third Quarter of 2020. Year-to-date adjusted for consistency with monthly data.
