The company has engaged a local consultant group that will undertake the phase 1 and phase 2 exploration program aimed at firming up the prospectivity of Gwesan Vanadium Project.
Protean Energy Ltd (ASX:POW) ) has started phases one and two of a seven-phase exploration program at Gwesan Vanadium Project in South Korea with the help of in-country independent consulting group GeoGeny Consultants Group Inc.
The consultancy will undertake the exploration activities with the aim of identifying vanadium prospectivity.
Under phase 1, GeoGeny will undertake a site visit, review project history and existing reports, review geology and mineralisation, and prepare an exploration plan.
In phase 2, it will undertake a geological survey to gain a field-based understanding of the project’s geology and mineralisation.
The geological field reconnaissance will focus on locating structural trends of mineralisation and identifying soil sampling targets.
KORES drilling
Subject to requisite permitting, the company anticipates starting phase three, a field reconnaissance program consisting of a multi-commodity soil sampling campaign to occur in the second quarter of 2021.
Korea Resources Corporation (KORES) previously completed three drill holes targeting the mineralised black shale at Gwesan to verify the mineralisation zone in the area.
These holes were completed to a down-hole depth of 100 metres each and several ore zones were intercepted from 3 metres to up to 11 metres wide in each drill hole.
The best intercept of 0.35% V2O5 in the first hole provides encouraging results.
Gwesan project is in its exploration stage and more drilling will be required to define the mineralisation zones in the area.
Gwesan background
Geology in the Okcheon belt consists of a meta-sedimentary sequence that is composed of three formations including the Wunkyori, Hwajeonri and Guryongsan.
The stratigraphical sequence within the belt at the Gwesan project comprises a dark grey phyllite, followed by the black shale (ore zone) and fine-grained sandstone.
Historical drilling at the project intercepted black shale along a 10-kilometre strike.
