On January 29, Japan Aluminium Alloy Refiners Association released the result of demand & supply for silicon metal and the production result of secondary aluminium alloy products in the full year 2014 as well as in December.
According to this, the consumption of silicon metal in December was 3,533 tons, down by 7.1% from the prior month. On the other side of the coin, as the quantity received was 4,057 tons, up by 2.8% from the prior month, the month-end inventory was 3,817 tons, up by 15.1%.
Besides, the production volume of secondary aluminium alloy products was 66,222 tons, down by 4.0% from the prior month, and the quantity shipped was 68,111 tons, down by 2.2% ditto. The month-end inventory was 23,931 tons, down by 4.8% ditto.
For a reference, the consumption of silicon metal in the full year 2014 was 44,145 tons, up by 1.1% from 43,652 tons of the prior year and the production volume of secondary aluminium alloy was 827,250 tons, up by 2.2% from 809,435 tons of the prior year. The details are as per the table below.
